While this $6.6 project will improve your commute, it is not likely to create traffic delays because most of the work will be done at night. I drove through the construction area just last night. Two of the lanes were blocked for about 2 miles and then driving was back to three lanes. The delay? Maybe 10 minutes. Not bad at all.
Projections call for completion around May -June of 2014.
Once that portion of the highway between Boca Raton and Delray Beach is complete, it will be time to rip up the road up to Boynton Beach Boulevard. However, since that portion of the project covers a shorter road distance it is likely to take less time. It’s cost, at $3.9 million, is also lower.
Expected completion is the fall of 2014.
The Turnpike Authority generally does a fine job of keeping the roads up to date. Now that the great recession has come to an end, several other vital turnpike projects that had gone on hold are also being revived. This is welcome news for those of us who commute through the area.
