When the Caldwell Theatre in Boca Raton closed due to inability to pay its bills, the building was put up for sale. The marketing brochure indicated that the facility was zoned for many uses, from theatre to retail to medical offices.
Fortunately for Boca Raton’s cultural scene, Marilynn Wick, the highly successful owner of a costume empire, took over the building. Her Costume World stores can be found in Deerfield Beach, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Austin.
Wick will move in her Costume World museum, and reopen the theatre. The new title of the building will be the The Wick Theatre and Costume Museum.
The 2013 season will be devoted to entirely to popular theatre, including The Sound of Music, White Christmas, 42nd Street, Ain’t Misbehavin, Steel Magnolias, and the Full Monte. The 2014 season will see some drama added to the fare.
There are also eight different and constantly varying costume exhibits.
This Wick Theatre and Costume Museum is a welcome addition to Federal Highway and we wish it well. We have already ordered tickets to Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, the first production of the season.
