Sugar Sand Park is a 132 acre park that offers a variety of activities for all ages. There are nature trails throughout the acreage, a massive playground area, a carousel, an indoor field house, indoor science exhibits, and even a small theater. It is worth a visit but keep in mind there are a few renovation projects that at still underway.
Outdoor Areas within Sugar Sand Park
The massive and very unique playground has been closed since June of 2015. It is expected to reopen sometime this fall (2016). The theme will change as well to be science based this time. The playground was in need of renovation as most of it was made of wood and not was not all-accessible which also caused some concerns. The new design will replace all wood with a wood composite material and include new equipment like slides and all accessible swings. The main walking surface will be a made of a rubberized material. The tot lot will also be changing from a barn to a train station.
Sugar Sands is also known for a spectacular Carousel that is located within a quick walk from the community center. This is NOT a free carousel. The Carousel will be closed for renovation work beginning September of 2016.
