If you are a vegan or vegetarian, then you know all too well that it used to be a challenge to find a place that serves scrumptious meals that allow you to follow your diet preferences. Well, those days of struggling are gone. Check out Boca’s five best eateries for delicious vegan and vegetarian fare.

The Salad Spot

Locally owned and operated, the Salad Spot serves healthy, organic and obviously vegetarian/vegan-friendly foods. Chef (and owner) Alejandro Rubio is dedicated to making the option for healthy eating more available to those living in the area. Every item on the menu – soups, salads, stews, and salad dressings – is made from scratch. The fresh offerings include a wide variety of salads such as Tuscan kale salad, roasted mushroom salad, Greek tomato salad, and many more.

The Salad Spot’s self-serve setup is extremely simple. You walk in, pick up a container, and fill it with any combination of veggies, fruits, and other items. The meal costs around $8 per pound, which works out to be an excellent deal for a wholesome and nutritious lunch.

Speaking of lunch time, this restaurant is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. To enjoy a meal in this laid back atmosphere, set your GPS to 690 Yamato Rd. #6, Boca Raton, FL. It’s tucked in right off Yamato Road, in the building opposite the Starbucks and very close to the Yafa Mediterranean Grill.

Maoz Vegetarian

Many people dread eating at the mall because the are often faced with unhealthy and poor quality options such as low quality burgers or pizza that’s swimming in grease. But wait: enter Maoz Vegetarian onto stage left. Basically, it’s a Middle Eastern (and mostly healthy) vegetarian spot – and it’s smack in the middle of the food court of the Town Center Mall at 6000 Glades Rd., Boca Raton. No, that’s not a typographical error—Maoz is in the mall.

One very appealing aspect of Maoz is that you don’t have to fight for a parking spot in a crowded lot. Another is that the food is incredibly tasty and is delivered to you quickly. The menu consists of basic options that contribute to the efficiency and simplicity of choosing your food. If you’ve spent a day shopping, you’re probably famished and tired from fighting the crowds. That’s when you can really appreciate the pleasure of having a good tasting, healthy meal arrive on your tray without having to wait in another long, slow line.

Choose between a traditional falafel sandwich, Jr. falafel sandwich, a salad bowl with falafel, a rice bowl with falafel, and a hummus bowl with falafel. Feel free to substitute vegan shawarma. You can also add toppings like eggplant, babaganoush, feta, and eggplant. Make it a meal with a side item and freshly squeezed juice from their juice bar. Also, every sandwich and bowl comes with Maoz’s complimentary salad and sauce bar.

Typically, from Monday through Saturday, they’re open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. On Sunday, they’re open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Holiday hours vary.

Parlour Vegan Bakery

This is a family-owned and operated vegan bakery living the small business dream. This quaint and very limited space (take-out and pick-up only), is located at 415 S. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL. It’s actually their newest and second vegan bakery location. Parlour Vegan takes pride in being known as a fully vegan bakery that refuses to use animal byproducts in anything they create.

Their featured empanadas feature a flavor for everyone. Choose from black bean, corn, quinoa, spinach, garbanzo, and cashew cheese, or potato, broccoli, and cheddar “cheese.” They sell an assortment of donuts, pop tarts, cookie sandwiches, blondies, and even vegan pizza rolls. Pair a tasty salted caramel peanut butter donut with a coffee or tea of your choice. Parlour Vegan offers a wide variety of flavors from which to choose. They even offer seasonally themed menus, such as their “Thanksgiving” menu that features pumpkin, Dutch apple, and bourbon pecan pies—yum! Can’t stop in during the week? No worries! They’re open every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Farmer’s Table

If you’re in search of a place to grab breakfast, brunch, or dinner, then the Farmer’s Table is the restaurant for you. This establishment is part of the “farm to table” movement that has been sweeping across South Florida for quite some time. The idea behind this is to deliver only fresh items while supporting the local farmers and businesses in the area. Because the Farmer’s Table firmly adheres to this policy, it buys only from locally sourced farms and food producers in the region.

While this restaurant is happy to cater to carnivores, it is equally delighted to offer a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan fare. Start with something like the “Farmer’s Stew,” which consists of roasted vegetables, chickpeas, and corn broth. It’s not only vegetarian, it is also gluten-free. The cucumber “tartare” is also a vegetarian starter that comes with avocado, cucumbers, dulse chips and a ginger-chili dressing. (That’s just an appetizer). Enjoy a pastaless vegetable lasagna for dinner and check out a seemingly endless list of vegetarian side dishes.

The Farmer’s Table is located at 1901 N. Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL. Hours of operation are from 7 am to 10 pm Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Fridays, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Yard House

Well known for their wide selection of draft beer and a variety of other drinks, this restaurant has a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Come for lunch, dinner or something in between! You can start your meal with crispy Brussels sprouts and ripped potatoes with a malt vinegar aioli, or try the truffle fries covered in shredded parmesan and herbs.

If a salad is your preference, you may want to try the red quinoa salad bowl. The tasty combination of ingredients comprises kale, parsley, Brussels sprouts, roasted beets, cauliflower pomegranate, blueberries, feta, baby tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, and blood orange olive oil vinaigrette. Just typing that has made me hungry.

Best of all (I saved this for last!), are the Gardein TM menu options. These items consist of a chicken substitute that is made with soy, wheat, pea proteins, vegetables, and ancient grains. Sink your teeth into the Gardein TM grilled chicken and avocado sandwich, served with swiss, lettuce, tomato, on top of an onion poppy seed bun and a side of fries. They also carry items such as Gardein TM chicken rice bowl and the Gardein TM blackened chicken torta.

This restaurant is great for large groups. That’s because the inclusive menu caters to not only to vegans and vegetarians but also to those who are neither. There really is something for everyone. Plus, the prices are very reasonable and the quality of every meal is excellent.

The Yard House is located in Mizner Park at 201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, FL. Seating is available either inside or outside of the establishment. Operating hours from Sunday through Thursday are 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they’re open from 11 a.m. until 1:30 a.m. Call ahead for reservations or walk right in to experience it for yourself.
